General Rules

  • Eligibility and Registration
    • All participants must register through the official AfriHackBox website or platform before the event.
    • Participants can compete individually or in teams (maximum of 4 members per team).
  • Code of Conduct
    • All participants must adhere to the event's code of conduct, ensuring respectful and ethical behavior towards other participants and organizers.
    • Harassment, cheating, and malicious activities are strictly prohibited and will result in immediate disqualification.

Competition Structure

  • Challenges Overview
    • The competition consists of a total of 20 challenges, divided into two stages.
    • Stage 1: 15 initial challenges of varying difficulty.
    • Stage 2: 5 advanced challenges.
  • Progression to Stage 2
    • Participants for the advanced skill set must complete the 15 Challenges to qualify for Stage 2.
    • Only those who qualify for Stage 2 will get to play the remaining 5 challenges and have the opportunity to compete for the top prize.

Challenge Rules

  • Challenge Types
    • Challenges will cover various categories including web security, cryptography, reverse engineering, forensics, and more.
    • Each challenge will have a specific point value based on its difficulty.
  • Challenge Completion
    • A challenge is considered complete when a participant or team successfully submits the correct flag.
    • Flags must be submitted through the official AfriHackBox platform.
  • Time Limits
    • The entire event will have a fixed duration (e.g., 48 hours).
    • Participants are free to attempt challenges in any order within the given time frame.

Scoring and Prizes

  • Scoring System
    • Points are awarded based on the difficulty of each challenge.
    • The overall score is the sum of the points from all completed challenges.
  • Tie-Breaking
    • In case of a tie in points, the participant or team that completed the challenges in the shortest time will be ranked higher.
  • Prizes
    • Top prizes will be awarded to participants or teams with the highest scores in Stage 2.
    • Additional prizes may be awarded for outstanding performance in specific categories.

Technical Rules

  • Tools and Resources
    • Participants are allowed to use any tools and resources available to them, except for any that are explicitly prohibited by the organizers.
    • The use of automated tools for flag submission is prohibited.
  • Environment and Platform
    • All challenges must be completed on the official AfriHackBox platform.
    • Participants must not attempt to disrupt the platform or other participants’ activities.

Integrity and Fair Play

  • Cheating and Plagiarism
    • Sharing flags, solutions, or exploiting the platform in any way is strictly prohibited.
    • Any form of collaboration outside of team members is considered cheating.
  • Reporting Issues
    • Participants are encouraged to report any issues or bugs encountered in challenges to the organizers.
    • Reports should be made through the official communication channels provided by AfriHackBox.

Disqualification

  • Grounds for Disqualification
    • Violation of any of the rules of engagement, code of conduct, or fair play principles.
    • Disruptive behavior or attempting to interfere with the competition’s integrity.
  • Appeal Process
    • Participants may appeal a disqualification decision by submitting a formal request to the event organizers within 24 hours of the decision.
    • The decision of the organizers on appeals is final.

Communication and Support

  • Official Communication
    • All official announcements and updates will be made through the AfriHackBox platform and designated communication channels (e.g., Slack, Discord).
  • Support
    • Technical support and clarification on challenges will be available throughout the event.
    • Participants can reach out to the support team via the designated communication channels for assistance.
